Brauchler vows to change 18th District: District Attorney candidate challenged Chambers in 2008
By Peter Jones
Four years after challenging incumbent District Attorney Carol Chambers in a contentious Republican primary, George Brauchler is again playing up the need for change in his candidacy to lead the 18th Judicial District.
“I can effect the kind of change that this office has needed for some time now,” the former Jefferson County prosecutor said. “With term limits in place, it’s an open seat this time around, and frankly, the feedback has been tremendous. It’s a much different campaign than it was four years ago.”
In 2008, Brauchler, an attorney with experience in civilian and military court, garnered support from 43 percent of Republican primary voters after running a campaign that questioned Chambers’ style and

George will be a great District Attorney! His experience is much needed in that office so we can trust in our criminal justice system again.
If George were the right person for the DA’s office, he would already be a prosecutor. George is a “has been” deputy DA. His past periods of employment with the state as a prosecutor (2001 and 2006) ended badly. George is currently not employed and he basically needs a job. He has not worked as a state prosecutor for the last 6 years. Crime is down in District 18 and George has nothing to do with those figures. As the public well knows, staff turnover is inevitable; prosecutors leave to pursue other employment opportunities.

It appears Mr. Brauchler was a DA for more than a decade in Jefferson County — a jurisdiction that is similar to ours in may ways. It also appears he was given great responsibility in the United States Army as a JAG attorney — including prosecutorial responsibilities. Seeing problems in a particular office is a perfectly great motive to come forward and try to make a change. I like the article as it paints a picture of a guy who gives a darn. I am very interested in that race as our current elected DA has had more than her fair share of negative publicity.
By the way, the Topolnicki guy — hasn’t he run before like in Jeffco or Adams County?
Crime is down everywhere in Colorado — is that because of the current DA in Arapahoe and Douglas Counties or because it’s just down? I guess I should be praised for decreasing the crime rate, too, since I lock my doors at night. You want to know what’s going on in the DA’s office today, find former employees who have moved on to greener pastures. I’d love to see The Villager do that. Turnover? Sure, it happens everywhere. But if Brauchler is wrong, why doesn’t someone correct him instead of taking pot shots.
What’s with the “things ended badly” volley above? Back that up with facts! And what’s with the disclaimer line at the end. John — if you’ve got something to share, share it all my man. Don’t just hide behind some keyboard at work. Let’s make fully informed decisions based on fact — not speculation, surmise and gossip. I will read everything I can about these candidates so that when I vote, I can say I understood the candidates and their vision. To date, it doesn’t appear anyone is holding up to Brauchler’s credentials.
Brauchler for DA
For Heaven’s Sake — this article was superb and it gave us all nice insight into Mr. Brauchler. What exactly is the rub with John above? Saying things “ended badly” is a pile of poo. Back that up with facts — like those in the article. I thank The Villager for trying to share data with those of us that don’t know all of these folks.
Brauchler claims turnover has been super high over there. Has The Vilalger looked for any former employees to figure out whether (1) that is accurate) or (2) why? I’d love to read that. If Brauchler is wrong, I’m sure that one of the other candidates will disprove the assertion (but what appears to be the case is that people like “John” just throw out baseless accusations hoping to hide the truth). Dear Villager staff — please ask the current DA for stats on how many attorneys have come and gone during her tenure. Then call Denver and call Adams and call Jeffco to see how it compares. That’s probably 20 minutes’ worth of research!
John — what fact do you have that support the notion Brauchler’s tenures as a prosecutor “ended badly?” Bring it out for all to see John, as our right to vote ought to be accompanied with an individual’s duty to be a fully informed voter! The article says Brauchler was the head of some Army attorney office — does that mean he needs a job or does that mean he has been entrusted with responsibilities that neither you, I, nor the other candidates have carried?
Crime is down? John — where in Colorado is crime not down? Factually, crime is down in all Colorado jurisdictions. It appears you are crediting the current DA with “crime being down.” Does that mean that when Sheriff Sullivan was finally snagged, you blame her? Of course not. If you want to give the current DA credit for crime being down, give it to all of us who lock our doors at night, too. That act is just as relevant to what the current DA has done to decrease crime!
Finally, after reading the article, I am Brauchler supporter. Until someone can show me facts that cut agsint him John, he is certainly going to be receiving my vote — as well as the vote of anyone who asks me what I’m doing in that race!
To John – Well stated. Mr. Braucher’s attempts at private practice have also proven unsuccessful. He may have won/lost a case or two, but things just don’t seem to “work out” in those settings. Something to do with “compensation disputes”.
He activated to the Army because private practice is hard work and in today’s economy, private practice didn’t’t work out for Brauchler. Now Brauchler is using 4 months in Iraq as a platform to run for office. In this day and era, the smart voters of District 18 don’t need a “self-promoting, flag-waving, uniform-wearing politician” as our next DA.
I also disagree with Mr. Brauchler’s statement in The Villager, “I’m not running because I’m at the end of my career, far from it,” he said.” The facts: Brauchler needs to win, or he’s hitting the pavement again. As in finding meaningful employment or deployment.
To Beau- This is Marcia, right? Note the sign off. Another commercial for your failing campaign.
As for the disclaimer, I like it and think I’ll use it too. Where did I hear that “all law is plagiarism?”

Hey there Beau- Wowza. John is the second most common name in the United States, yet you automatically called out and accused another candidate of the post! Using exactly what facts? Frail. Weak. In my honest opinion, I believe you are a Brauchler, and quite possibly George. To accuse an innocent person via a “Comments” post and expect to be elected! Is this the kind of “improvement” the citizens can expect from you? To falsely accuse an innocent person?

Any truth to the rumor that the Feds are watching the Brauchler’s? Every piece of communication, professional and personal? From their IP’s, mobiles, etc? The Brauchler’s have their peeps in high and low places. Whose watching them and why?
I was proud to read an article about a good man, friend and neighbor who is using his life to try and affect positive change. I am shocked by the false comments made by “John” and “Xavier”. Part of the time George was not working as a prosecutor, which in your mind somehow makes him unqualified, he was serving our country both litigiously and physically. My name is not Marcia or Brauchler. I support George because I know the truth. I am a lifelong Democrat, and I will proudly and without question vote George Brauchler for DA.
Oh, and “These statements are not affiliated with any political party or candidate. They reflect the personal views of a peer-qualified private citizen.”
They say it’s not who you know, but who knows you.
Holy smokes — this just in — the rumor is true. Brauchler is being questioned by feds regarding the Lindbergh baby AND the lost ark of the covenant. Folks (Dick and John) — get real. Simply cite the facts you have that can be verified independently of your own post.
To the Lynn comment – You failed to disclose that you are employed by Marcia Brauchler as an account specialist at Physician’s Ally. Would compensation or your paycheck be a reason to post on behalf of your friend and employer?

From the mouth of George Brauchler, which means he personally said the words, he “quit” the 1st Judicial District (JeffCo) in 2001 and 2006 due to differences with former DA’s Dave Thomas (2001) and Scott Storey (2006).
Brauchler stated that he did not agree with the position statements or direction either elected official held. Isn’t this the spin Brauchler wants the voters to believe, or was Brauchler in fact “Passed Over”, “Forced Out” or “Fired”? Calling Brauchler out. “Why did you leave JeffCo”? Come on brother – the voters deserve the truth.
To the Woody comment – You failed to disclose that you are simply a Brauchler hater that wants to throw garbage against the wall, hoping something sticks. If the candidate you’re supporting has information that Mr. Brauchler “quit due to differences,” let that candidate identify their source at tonight’s forum. The truth is, neither you nor a candidate have such information because it’s garbage.
While you’re in the truth-finding mode “Woody”, let’s make sure we ask Mr. Topolnicki how many times he has run for DA and lost, ask Ms. Hansen whether it is true crime statistics are down across Colorado and ask the Mr. Wareham if he has ever prosecuted a crime.
Here at the debate this evening and so disappointed with George Brauchler. His true lack of experience clearly demonstrated. Impressive candidates otherwise. All the previous posts in defense of Brauchler – so disappointed in the “hater name calling”, really childish and gives deep insight as to his character and the core of his campaign.
The office of the DA is a serious position – we need a qualified DA. Brauchler is young and ambitious, but he’s more of a “funny man comedian”. He does not have the experience of the current prosecutors or other elder candidate.
Plus, he’s trying to pull former Sheriff Sullivan into the dialogue – not too good. Brauchler should not want to associate his name with Sheriff Sullivan. Have heard we don’t need another Sheriff Sullivan type as law enforcement, but might get that with Brauchler. Of course, just my opinion. Perhaps Brauchler will be ready in a few more years. Needs more current work history. The reservist work is so part time and no civilian prosecution in over 6 years. Could use more active duty in the military, about 20 years active JAG to be considered a serious candidate, otherwise, just tooting his own horn for his own cause, not the best interest of Arapahoe County.
This just in. Brauchler visited caucuses tonight and continues to misrepresent himself. He did not disclose that he left JeffCo twice – bad terms? Said he was a county prosecutor for 12 years – another misrepresentation! Check out his curriculum vitae at lawweb.colorado.edu…
Add up the number of years he was with the DA’s office. Even with fuzzy math he was a prosecutor for 10 years. Little white lies we don’t need in District 18. He may just be the next Sheriff Sullivan type. Voters – we don’t need that. We understand he was also a prosecutor in District 18 (Arapahoe, Douglas, Elbert and Lincoln) under Jim Peters, for a few months and also “left”. Again, why? The “downtown law firm” he developed, did he over-exaggerate – why is he no longer there? His FB pages states he left in 2010. He’s grasping at straws.
Tonight George Brauchler highlighted his accomplishments and his long term relationship of over 12 years with law enforcement – the sheriff and police. He went on and on about how they all have endorsed him. Does Arapahoe County really need another Sheriff Sullivan?
George Brauchler has no significant management experience and, outside of his status in the Army Reserve, appears to have remained unemployed. I understand that he would like a job, and being a DA might have special appeal to an unemployed lawyer, but he doesn’t have the quality or depth of experience that the other candidates have.
Of the declared candidates, Mr. Brauchler is the only one who wouldn’t be a full time DA and the 18th Judicial District is too large to have a part time leader. Mr. Brauchler becomes defensive, vague and elusive when asked if he would resign his commission if elected.
When Mr. Brauchler has been working as an Army attorney, he’s always been in the rear echelon prosecuting our soldiers who might not always have been as safe as he has been.
