Cherry Creek’s win adds to graduation festivities

On May 23, Cherry Creek girls’ varsity soccer took the 5A state championship title, beating Boulder’s Fairview High School, 1-0.

Fairview did well through the playoffs, not letting anyone score against them, but Creek striker Zsuria Phare brought the rain to Dick’s Sporting Goods Park. Thirty-four minutes into the game, Phare scored the only goal made that evening.

This is the second claimed title for the girls. Their first state championship win was in 2001. The Bruins finished the season with 15 wins, four losses and a tie.
