Cherry Creek to mull bond issue: Proposal would expand overcrowded high schools
By Peter Jones
Voters in the Cherry Creek School District may decide this fall if a bond issue is the way to address overcrowding problems in several high schools. The district’s Long Range Facility Planning Committee has voted unanimously to recommend the Board of Education place the $125 million question on November’s ballot.
Much of the revenue would be used to pay for expansions at southeast Aurora’s Cherokee Trail and Grandview where increasing enrollment has caused the schools to exceed their official capacities and in some cases resort to mobile classrooms. New wings would be added at a total cost of about $13 million.
Another $37 million would be marked for renovations and general upgrades in electrical, fire protection, HVAC
