The city of Englewood has organized   a benefit next month for the family of Police Officer Jeremy Bitner, who was struck and killed by a drunk driver on Memorial Day. He is believed to be the first officer in Englewood’s history to be killed in the line of duty.

The benefit will be held Sept. 22, 3-9 p.m., in the parking lot at 3400 S. Acoma St. and will feature music, entertainment, food, a silent auction and activities for kids.

“We are hoping to raise money for this family, but we are more importantly opening our hearts to this family whose husband and father gave his life in the line of duty,” said Colleen Mello, executive director
