Outsider beats Hansen in contentious primary

Republicans in the 18^th Judicial District favored the outsider over the office veteran in the June 26 primary election for district attorney.

Underdog George Brauchler defeated Deputy District Attorney Leslie Hansen by a margin of 51 to 49 percent in a sharply divided Republican Party contest.

Brauchler, a Highlands Ranch-based attorney, former Jefferson County prosecutor and Army Reservist, says primary voters were looking for change after eight years of the often-controversial District Attorney Carol Chambers.
