Outsider beats Hansen in contentious primary

Republicans in the 18th Judicial District favored the outsider over the office veteran in the June 26 primary election for district attorney.

Underdog George Brauchler defeated Deputy District Attorney Leslie Hansen by a margin of 51 to 49 percent in a sharply divided Republican Party contest.

Brauchler, a Highlands Ranch-based attorney, former Jefferson County prosecutor and Army Reservist, says primary voters were looking for change after eight years of the often-controversial District Attorney Carol Chambers.
