Opinion – Remarks – Best years for U.S. yet to come
Talk of the decline in the power and influence of the United States is now in fashion.
Today’s prophets of “doom and gloom” are busy pointing out that we will not be the first great power to fall from the heights of leadership. They naturally start with the classic example of the Roman Empire and end with the history of Britain.
A similar fate is sealed for us, they insist; because, we are being smothered by our debts while our productivity dwindles and our savings evaporate.
Reflecting on our own generation’s accomplishments, and after meeting with some of tomorrow’s leaders, I most certainly do not agree with our country’s “doom and gloomers” nor do I despair for our country’s future.
