Cherry Hills captures America’s No. 1 suburb title
A survey announced Sept. 25 by The Wall Street Journal’s Market Watch, has named Cherry Hills Village as the No. 1 suburb in America to live. The survey, released by Coldwell Banker Real Estate, reveals its top 10 suburban picks for best places to live in America. It beat out such leafy enclaves as Clyde Hill, Wash., (near Bellevue, Wash., home of Eddie Bauer and Expedia), Wolf Trap, Va., (commuter area to Washington, D.C.), Englewood Cliffs, N.J., (only nine miles from Manhattan’s George Washington bridge) and Indian Hills, Ky.
High Line Canal topic of Cherry Hills video competition
The historic High Line Canal Trail is the subject of a student video production competition announced last week by Cherry Hills Village Mayor Doug Tisdale. The competition will be open to students from Cherry Hills Elementary school, Kent Denver School, St. Mary’s Academy (all of which are within Village boundaries) and West Middle School, which lies at the edge of Cherry Hills. The challenge to students: create an eight-minute video on one of several themes related to the usage, beauty, history, wildlife or vegetation of the trail.
Cherry Hills Councilwoman LaMair announces resignation
District 6 City Councilwoman Harriet LaMair announced she will be resigning in November at the Sept. 4 Cherry Hills Village meeting. She is stepping down from her elected term, which runs until January 2015. The City Council will make an appointment to fill the vacancy and is accepting applications immediately.

Cherry Hills welcomes U.S. Amateur next week
The 2012 U.S. Amateur Championship, Aug. 13-19, is the ninth national golf championship to be held at Cherry Hills Country Club. The companion course will be Common Ground in Aurora. Cherry Hills will host five days of match play. Ten hours will be broadcast on NBC and the Golf Channel.

Summer painting class for a group of young girls in grades 4-6 turned into something special for the painters, teacher Melinda Smith Haymons and property owner Catherine Anderson. The girls painted for the morning, learned techniques from a master, met Cherry Hills property owner Anderson and even had the opportunity to share their oil paintings with her.
