Neighborhood leaders and a local water provider differ over how to remedy a water stain problem.

The Ladera Homeowners Association says it has literally hit a brick wall in its efforts to convince the Arapahoe County Water and Wastewater Authority to fix an estimated $60,000 in water damage at the 4-year-old unincorporated development.

According to the HOA, public water from its lawn sprinklers has stained the wall surrounding the Ladera development. ACWWA provides water services to the development near the intersection of Jordan Road and

What I find exceptionally interesting in this article is that Peter Jones never bothered to contact the CURRENT HOA for their comments, only speaking to the FORMER president of the HOA.

“The water apparently has too much iron or something,”…really you are taking on ACWWA and you have no idea what you are actually arguing?

    The article is poorly executed.

The comment posted clearly shows little regard to the what the article protrays – that this is a huge problem only ACWWA can resolve and needs to address immediately. The non-potable water and contaminents of the un-treated water used to irrigate the common grounds of the community have resulted in the staining of both walls and sidewalks, and not only at Ladera, but many surrounding communities. More than 120+/- homes are affected by this problem at Ladera alone. The interior walls are beautiful and not affected at all by ACWWA’s water, which clearly demonstrates this is a problem with the water content. Thank you to both our County Commissioners and ACWWA who have recognized this problem at the Ladera community and agreed to meet with its residents and owners.

Maybe the HOA should step up to the plate then and do something about it and stop hiding! Or maybe it is the fact that the CURRENT HOA does not know what it is doing. Obviously the FORMER HOA president stepped up to the plate in an effort to better her community. Just a thought.

As a member of the current HOA Board of Directors for Ladera, I can attest that the board was not contacted for comment in this article. We are very aware of the staining issue and have debated over the coarse of action over the past year as recorded in minutes. I also personally agree with the original reply that this article was poorly informed and executed.

I encourage homeowners to attend and voice concerns at the monthly board meetings and the upcoming annual members meeting. Information regarding these meetings has been distributed to homeowners. Members can also contact our community manager. Contact information is located on the monthly statements.

To “Kristy”. Your comment that the current board is “hiding” is completely false. We have had an open board meeting every month and this issue was discussed at almost all of them. I don’t recall you ever attending these meetings or having written letters to inform us of your concerns. In any regard, you are unfortunately misinformed as is any reader of this article. Again, I welcome and encourage you inform yourself and raise your concerns at one of the upcoming meetings.

Thank you Julie for ALL of your efforts in doing what is right for our community! Obviously, the first commenter has not received the mailings from ACWWA admitting to harmful contaminents in the water. Hopefully the HOA will continue your efforts. Whoever takes over has HUGE shoes to fill. Again, thank you Julie.

I am a Ladera homeowner, but have only been able to attend a few board meetings – none since the HOA presidency changed hands – so this is not a commentary on any board members’ actions or lack thereof. I am guilty of not paying as close attention to the state of our community as I should, until recently. I drive down Broncos Parkway almost every day, and have noticed the same ugly stains on the medians and even the edges of the pavement itself, west of Jordan Road. They look equally as tacky as our outside wall. However, the stains do not continue all the way down Peoria. I am sure many residents have the same questions that I do… Did Ladera use the same irrigation contractor as the city or county? Has the city or county looked into this matter, as well? What is different about the irrigation on the unstained medians/stretch of road nearing Arapahoe? Different water source? Different contractors? I look forward to hearing more from Mr. Atkin and our County Commissioners on this matter.

As the new President of the Ladera Homeowners Association, I can assure all homeowners the board of directors is not and will not take this issue lightly. The new board of directors encourages all Ladera homeowners to attend our monthly scheduled meetings, as outlined in the monthly newsletter mailed to each homeowner. We encourage any questions, comments or suggestions, as this issue affects all homeowners within our community. On behalf of the entire board of directors, I look forward to seeing you all at our next meeting.
